"Eine total, total verrückte Welt" von Stanley Kramer von 1963 ist so ziemlich das Flagschiff aller irrsinnig überdrehten Screwball-Actionkomödien. Selbst Steven Spielberg scheiterte legendär an dem Versuch, diesen Klassiker mit seinem Irrsinn namens "1941 - Wo bitte geht's nach Hollywood?" zu toppen.
Damit Kramer der wahnsinnigen Anhäufung der Top-Comedytalente seiner Zeit gerecht werden konnte, schrappten die ersten Rohschnittfassungen locker an der fünf Stunden-Marke. Die erste reguläre Fassung des Films landete aber immerhin noch bei ca. 210 Minuten, die Regisseur Kramer wohl aber noch selbst auf eine Länge von 192 Minuten (Roadshow-Version) reduzierte. Dem Verleih United Artists war dies aber immer noch nicht genug, so dass "Eine total, total verrückte Welt" schließlich mit 154 Minuten in die Kinos kam. Obwohl es auf Laserdisc eine Special Edition Version gab, die etwas über 20 Minuten des Materials wiederherstellte, ist die vollständige Roadshow-Fassung nie vberöffentlicht worden. Bis jetzt!
Am 21. Januar 2014 wird Criterion in den USA erstmals eine vollständig restaurierte Version des Films auf Blu-ray und DVD mit einer Laufzeit von 197 Minuten (!) präsentieren. Zusätzlich sind auch die reguläre Kinofassung und zahlreiche umfangreiche Extras auf der Scheibe zu finden. An einer deutschen Auswertung des Titels darf mal stark gezweifelt werden.
